Understand the differences between the Plan.Do.Check.Act. (PDCA) and Plan.Do. (PD) frameworks.
When Coaches create a new session, they will be required to select one of two frameworks for the subject — PDCA or PD. This framework will be a guide for the process of the coaching session. Here’s how they differ.
PDCA - Plan. Do. Check. Act
Use the PDCA framework to coach for performance-related subjects. FLASH Coach automatically enables the type of sessions depending on the selected framework.
PDCA is a cyclical process that is repeatable across many subjects to improve the individual’s progress.
- Plan: Coachee will prepare for coaching using either the GROW model or the Conversational model to plan sessions.
- Do: This is when a one-on-one coaching session takes place.
- Check: Checkpoints are used to check-in with Coachees on their progress after one-on-one coaching.
- Act: Review Coachee’s progress and update the final score.
Under PDCA, there will be two different types of session models.
The first will be a GROW model, in which Coachees will have to fill in a GROW (Goals, Reality, Options, Way Forward) form prior to the one-on-one session with their Coach. This is to align the overall expectations and results for the session.
Another option Coaches have is the Conversational model. This will be a series of seven questions that Coaches will ask Coachees during the one-on-one session. As it’s done during the session, the Coachee will not be required to fill out any forms prior to the session.
PD - Plan. Do.
The PD framework is only available for behavior and conduct related subjects that do not involve checkpoints and reviews. The one-on-one session intends to highlight the issue and the result of the poor behavior and conduct, provide suggestions, and remind the Coachee NOT to repeat the negative actions.
The Coachee does not have the authority to edit or change the framework. However, they will be able to check which of the two options their Coach has selected for them when clicking into the respective Sessions.
Now that you know the functions of both the PDCA and PD frameworks, Coaches can select the suitable option needed to start your Coachee’s session.
